San Francisco, Calif., – May 9, 2000 – Coremetrics, Inc., the
first comprehensive eMarketing intelligence ASP, today announced
an investment of nearly eight million dollars in the company's back-end
technical infrastructure. Coremetrics has integrated leading technology
solutions from vendors such as Aperian, Cubix, EMC Corporation,
Foundry, Oracle, Protegrity and Sun Microsystems to deliver a highly
scalable, robust and secure eMarketing intelligence service for
online retailers. High traffic Web sites such as Lucy.com, Petstore.com
and ToysRUs.com are among more than 40 e-commerce companies who
rely on Coremetrics' technical infrastructure to obtain comprehensive
eMarketing intelligence reporting.
The Coremetrics technical infrastructure consists of three main
components: Data Collection, Data Storage and Back-Up, and Data
Security. The three components are tightly integrated to deliver
eLuminate, a highly scalable, comprehensive service that effectively
tracks and analyzes online consumer behavior. Coremetrics' fusion
of these leading technologies further establishes eLuminate's service
model as the most relevant and cost-effective solution for gaining
insight into online consumer behavior.
"Addressing the issues of scalability and security are both
important for our customers and vital to the adoption of the ASP
model by top-tier e-commerce sites," said Brett Hurt, President
and CEO of Coremetrics. "We have partnered with industry leaders
in technology and dedicated a significant amount of resources to
create a back-end that is highly scalable and ensures the most reliable
and secure service for all of our customers."
Coremetrics' Three Main Components
Coremetrics' data center operates from within an Aperian co-location
facility. Aperian facilities are located directly on the Genuity
(formerly GTE) backbone, which has OC-192 capacity, giving eLuminate
customers access to the largest Internet bandwidth pipeline available
in the world.
Data CollectionThe Data Collection component captures key
visitor data such as site referral, page and product browsing, shopping
cart actions, registration and order processing. At the core of
the Data Collection component is a server configuration of more
than 100 Cubix servers with Foundry high-speed routers providing
unlimited upward scalability. Cubix is a vendor of award-winning,
high performance density servers with competitive superiority in
the areas of fault-resilient packaging, processor density, and management.
Foundry is a leading provider of high performance end-to-end switching
and routing solutions. Each individual server running at 25 percent
capacity is able to support an incoming data flow of nearly 50,000
page views per minute, delivering a highly scalable and reliable
means of data collection.
Data Storage and Back-UpCoremetrics has licensed technology
from industry leaders EMC, Oracle and Sun Microsystems to deliver
a robust data center that stores key visitor data and makes it readily
available to the customer. Captured metrics are stored on three
Sun Enterprise 10000 (also known as Starfire) servers
with the highly reliable and scalable Solaris Operating Environment,
running the Oracle8i database. In addition to setting industry
performance records, the highly reliable Sun Enterprise 10000 server
is the world's single most scalable SMP system. Coremetrics' integration
of Oracle's award-winning Internet Oracle8i database provides eLuminate
customers with unmatched database functionality and scalability.
Coremetrics employs EMC enterprise storage systems and back-up software
as part of its redundant systems and multiple simultaneous backup
to virtually eliminate the chance for data loss. EMC is the leader
in enterprise storage systems, software and services. Additional
leading vendor partners participating in Coremetrics' data storage
and back-up architecture are Qualstar for AIT back-up tape drive
solutions, Legato Systems for file management and back-up software,
and Veritas for replication solutions.
Data SecurityCoremetrics has partnered with Protegrity and
VeriSign to ensure the maximum level of security for customer data.
Data transferred to the Coremetrics database is protected from any
unauthorized use with Protegrity's Secure.Data patented data-privacy
technology, the preferred encryption solution for Oracle databases.
eLuminate customers view reports in a password-protected area that
is encrypted using SSL security from Verisign, the leading provider
of Internet trust services.
"Coremetrics' use of EMC's Enterprise Storage solutions ensures
the highest level of reliability and speed in managing, protecting
and sharing vital eMarketing data," said Mark J. Vargo, Vice
President of Product Marketing at EMC. "With EMC, Coremetrics
has created an information infrastructure that is highly scalable
and flexible, making eLuminate a viable solution for even the largest
top-tier Web sites."
"Coremetrics' choice of the reliable and scalable Starfire
server and Solaris Operating Environment is a significant benefit
for companies that rely on eLuminate for delivering critical eMarketing
intelligence data," said Steve Campbell, Director of Datacenter
Product Marketing at Sun Microsystems. "Sun's Starfire servers
are the ideal platform for growing ASP environments due to their
dynamic domain partitioning capabilities and high performance characteristics."
